The Ghost has done it again!

SAGA, the Image Comics series by writer Brian K Vaughan and artist Fiona Staples is perhaps the biggest break-out new hit series of 2012!

What is SAGA?
Two soldiers from opposite sides of a torturous galactic war fall in love and then risk everything to bring a fragile new life into a dangerous old universe. Writer Brian K. Vaughan (New York Times bestselling writer of Y: The Last Man and Ex Machina) works with acclaimed artist Fiona Staples, making Saga the widescreen epic of one young family fighting to find their place in the worlds. Fantasy and science fiction lovers love SAGA!

Pictured here is the limited edition GHOST VARIANT for SAGA #7, with art by Paul Pope and color art by Fiona Staples. This special Ghost Variant is only available from a relative handful of comic shops all over North America... and of course, Flying Colors is one of those featured outlets.

With the recent release of
SAGA Volume One compiling the first six issues of the series for the great price of $9.99, and today's release of Saga #7, there's never been a better time to jump on this series.

We hope to see you in the store soon so we can tell you about this cool series!

Peace!

(For those too far away to drive to Flying Colors in Concord, we have copies of SAGA #7 Ghost Variant Edition available at eBay.com.)

Oakland Coliseum in the Twilight Zone!

...it's amazing what kinds of odd and unexpected shots I can get using the "panorama" setting in Apple's iOs 6 for the iPhone.

Notice: No "Mount Davis"---just clear blue sky. Though it's somewhat pesky that the tarped third deck is collapsing into the Coliseum's Plaza level.

Here's my off-season hope that a deal will get done for a new ballpark at Jack London Square in downtown Oakland. The symmetry of having the SF Giants' west-side waterfront ball-park face a new A's East Bay-side waterfront ballpark would be wonderful for the entire Bay Area.

95 days 'til pitchers and catchers report to Spring Training 2013!

Madefire Story Night 10/4

Those of you who witnessed the awesome work of artist Liam Sharp at our STAND! event will want to know that Liam is also the Chief Creative Officer and one of the principals in a fairly new digital venture called Madefire

Creating a new kind of comics specifically for the iPad--- branded as "Motion Books"--- Madefire is making waves in the wider comics community for working to program the future of digital graphic storytelling.

A recent story on Bleeding Cool details a visit to Madefire's monthly "Story Night" (first Thursday every month) and the reporter came away saying Madefire's iPad app is "like getting slapped in the face by the future."

I was there for the September "Story Night" and was impressed by the talent, the drive and energy the whole Madefire staff has for its ground-breaking work. Liam interviewed the newest member of the Madefire team, Editorial Director Ben Abernathy, most recently an editor at DC Comics. It was a chance to get to know a bit of what Ben puts into the editing profession and his vision for the creative output at Madefire.

It was a fun evening of comics, er--- "Motion Books"--- pizza and beer with many members of the professional Bay Area comics community there for the event.
That all leads to this:
On Thursday October 4th, I hope you'll join me in visiting Madefire's Story Night. I've been invited to be the one interviewed--- really, it'll be a conversation between Liam and I, videoed for posterity. Very relaxed and informal, yet still professional all the way.

There will be space for others to visit, so please RSVP by email to britt.dionne@madefire.com to make sure there is still space available.

Hope to see you there!

Thank you for taking a STAND! Against Domestic Violence

Our recent Comics Sketch-Fest and Facebook auction of original comic art to benefit STAND! For Families Free of Violence was a wonderful success!

Our hearty thanks go out to the many comic artists-- both pros and future pros---  who pitched in to draw for the cause! And many thanks to those who came out to participate in the live auction by bidding on and purchasing the art, as well as more thanks to those who also supported the Facebook art auction.

These events raised a little over $1800 total for STAND! We hope our efforts encourage more people to support the good work that STAND! does in our community!

Peace!
