Madefire Story Night 10/4

Those of you who witnessed the awesome work of artist Liam Sharp at our STAND! event will want to know that Liam is also the Chief Creative Officer and one of the principals in a fairly new digital venture called Madefire

Creating a new kind of comics specifically for the iPad--- branded as "Motion Books"--- Madefire is making waves in the wider comics community for working to program the future of digital graphic storytelling.

A recent story on Bleeding Cool details a visit to Madefire's monthly "Story Night" (first Thursday every month) and the reporter came away saying Madefire's iPad app is "like getting slapped in the face by the future."

I was there for the September "Story Night" and was impressed by the talent, the drive and energy the whole Madefire staff has for its ground-breaking work. Liam interviewed the newest member of the Madefire team, Editorial Director Ben Abernathy, most recently an editor at DC Comics. It was a chance to get to know a bit of what Ben puts into the editing profession and his vision for the creative output at Madefire.

It was a fun evening of comics, er--- "Motion Books"--- pizza and beer with many members of the professional Bay Area comics community there for the event.
That all leads to this:
On Thursday October 4th, I hope you'll join me in visiting Madefire's Story Night. I've been invited to be the one interviewed--- really, it'll be a conversation between Liam and I, videoed for posterity. Very relaxed and informal, yet still professional all the way.

There will be space for others to visit, so please RSVP by email to britt.dionne@madefire.com to make sure there is still space available.

Hope to see you there!

Thank you for taking a STAND! Against Domestic Violence

Our recent Comics Sketch-Fest and Facebook auction of original comic art to benefit STAND! For Families Free of Violence was a wonderful success!

Our hearty thanks go out to the many comic artists-- both pros and future pros---  who pitched in to draw for the cause! And many thanks to those who came out to participate in the live auction by bidding on and purchasing the art, as well as more thanks to those who also supported the Facebook art auction.

These events raised a little over $1800 total for STAND! We hope our efforts encourage more people to support the good work that STAND! does in our community!

Peace!
