Ain’t gonna lie.
This coronavirus era is the biggest challenge in Flying Colors 32 year history.
I understand and empathize with everyone going through this incredibly trying ordeal. "We're in this together" seems a bit trite when so many are dealing with the loss of loved ones or dealing with having he virus or being prevented from seeing elderly loved ones in quarantine.
A (hopefully) temporary small business setback seems trivial in comparison. However, there is real concern the comics business will change in dramatic ways as a result of the pandemic. Already we've seen the cancellations of big events like Free Comic Book Day and Comic-Con International-San Diego. At Flying Colors we're missing our FlyCo Faithful!! We love the buzz of New Comics on Wednesdays and the general laid-back fun we try to provide the community here.
Flying Colors Comics will make it through this, even though we'll be in a more precarious position. Thankfully, we've always stayed away from being in debt! But there was simply no way to prepare for the loss of business we've experienced since the middle of March.
Today, a new initiative has been launched to try to keep local comics and games shops going. Look, there are many worthwhile causes to consider, so I'm not asking for your money here. But I would like you to share this new initiative aimed at helping local shops.
It's called #BacktheComeback. It's headed up by Steve Geppi, the founder of Diamond Comic Distributors and the owner of Alliance Games Distribution.
So what can you do to help?
* Check out the "Back the Comeback" website HERE. The t-shirt I'm wearing in the photo is available from that site... and is a fundraiser for the campaign. There's also additional information including tools to help make your own social messages.
* Share messages of support about your favorite local comics shop (maybe Flying Colors?) and your favorite local games shop. Tag your social media posts with the store's name or social media handle and include the hashtag #BacktheComeback.
* Follow Back the Comeback on Facebook.
* Tell your friends about the local comics and games shops you love!
* Post on review sites like Google, Facebook, Yelp, etc.
We are so looking forward to opening our doors and welcoming you in to our shop... into our Flying Colors community... again. We don't know when that will be yet, so thanks for your patience... and your Shopify and email orders until then!
I've always said that Flying Colors is a business built on gratitude and that has never been clearer or meant more than it does during this challenging time.
Thank you!
