In addition, the event will commemorate the legacy of the
late Jack Kirby, historically comics' most important creator. Kirby was the
creator and co-creator of hundreds of comic book characters (Captain America, X-Men,
Fantastic Four, Avengers, Thor, Hulk, New Gods, Mister Miracle, etc.) in a
career that lasted from the mid-1930s until his passing in 1994. 2017 marks the
centennial of Jack Kirby's birth and the comics' industry is marking the occasion by raising funds in a campaign
called "Kirby4Heroes" to benefit The Hero Initiative, a non-profit charity
that creates a financial safety net for comic creators who need emergency
medical aid, financial support for essentials of life, and an avenue back into
paying work. Flying Colors will donate a portion of the day's sales to The Hero
Initiative.
"I'm thrilled to see how our third annual
FlyCo Mini Indie-Con is shaping up. We love giving a spotlight to local artists
to show their stuff. I know there's going to be something fun for every comics'
fan at our event," said Joe Field, owner of Flying Colors Comics. "Plus,
our celebration of Jack Kirby's centennial will include some delicious cake.
You've got to be here to see this Kirby inspired cake before you gobble a
piece."
